“Semper Fidelis” or “Semper Fi” for short, is the official motto of the Marine Corps. The Latin term was adopted in 1883 and means “Always Faithful”. You may have heard a Marine voice their loyalty and commitment to their fellow Marine with the short version, “Semper Fi”.
A branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) provides power projection from the sea. With the aid of mobility from the U.S. Navy, the Marine Corps delivers combined-arms task forces quickly and efficiently. An example of combined-task forces, is the Marine-Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF), who are utilized for an array of military operations. Often working closely with the U.S. Naval Forces for training, transportation and logistics, the Marine Corps is still its own separate branch.
You could say that “Semper Fidelis” distinguishes the bond among its Marine brotherhood more than any other Armed Forces military branch. Their never-ending bond surpasses all else. It is the core of their overall bond, guiding them to remain faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to the United States of America, above all else. Once a Marine, always a Marine. The transformation cannot be touched, it cannot be undone. Semper Fi, you are one of us. There is no such thing as an ex-Marine.
